Dieses Update enthält neue Funktionen und Verbesserungen, einschließlich:

– Wiedergabe von Musik, Filmen und TV-Sendungen aus einer freigegebenen iTunes-Mediathek auf einem Mac oder PC (iTunes 10.2 erforderlich)

– Wiedergabe von Videos aus der „Fotos“-App (wie „Aufnahmen“), Vorschauvideos in iTunes, aktivierten Apps von Drittanbietern sowie Websites auf Apple TV
– Wiedergabe von Diashows aus „Fotos“ auf Apple TV mit Übergängen von Apple TV
• Höhere Safari-Geschwindigkeit mit Apple Nitro JavaScript Engine
• HD-Video-Out über den Apple Digital AV Adapter***
– Wiedergabe von 720p HD-Videos aus verschiedenen Apps (Videos, iPod, Fotos, YouTube, Safari, Keynote sowie aktivierten Apps von Drittanbietern) auf einem HDMI-Display
• Ping-Funktionen
– Push-Benachrichtigungen für Kommentare und Anfragen zum Folgen
– Titel und „Gefällt mir“ können direkt vom Bildschirm „Aktuelle Wiedergabe“ gepostet werden
– Kindersicherung
• Neue Einstellungen
– Die Anzahl der Benachrichtigungen beim Eingang von Nachrichten kann eingestellt werden
– Der iPad-Seitenschalter kann je nach Einstellung zum Sperren der Bildschirmausrichtung oder als Stummschalter (für Benachrichtigungen und Toneffekte) verwendet werden
• Wählen von Konferenzgesprächen mit einem einzigen Tippen mit Pause zum Senden eines Codes
• Fehlerbehebungen

Die Besitzer eines iPhone 3G kennen das Gefühl der Langsamkeit bzw. Trägheit ihres Smartphones, spätestens seit dem Update der Software auf das iOS 4.0.
Steve Jobs hatte bereits Abhilfe durch entsprechende Updates angekündigt. Bei den jüngsten Updates, Ver. 4.0.1 und 4.0.2, hat es keine spührbaren Verbesserungen in Bezug auf die Performance des iPhones gegeben.

Apple reagiert auf langsame und abstürzende iPhone 3G nach Update auf iOS 4.

Für Besitzer eines iPhone 3G mit iOS 4 gehören lange Wartezeiten und fast tägliche Restarts zum Alltag. Die Geräte der Generation 3G tun sich mit der neuesten Version des Betriebssystems schwer.

Die iPhone App Fring bietet mit ihrem heutigen Update eine Funktion zur Videotelefonie und Multitasking Unterstützung an. Videotelefonie wird aufgrund der Frontkamera natürlich nur vom iPhone 4 mit iOS 4 unterstützt.

Ab sofort ist Videotelefonie mit Fring sowohl via WLAN als auch über das Mobilfunknetz möglich. Der Multitasking Support ermöglicht es, die Applikation im Hintergrund laufen zu lassen. Der Benutzer wird dann sofort informiert, wenn neue Nachrichten oder Skype-Anrufe eingehen.
