Apple Continues Development on visionOS With Beta 6 Release

Apple today seeded the sixth beta of visionOS, the software that runs on the Vision Pro headset. The fifth beta came out in late October, so it has been two weeks since Apple last released a ‌visionOS‌ update.

Apple Vision Pro with battery Feature Orange
Only a limited number of developers have access to Vision Pro at this time, with the headsets used for app testing purposes. Most people do not have access to the ‌visionOS‌ beta, and it is not entirely clear what Apple is adding in each ‌visionOS‌ update.

Apple is letting developers attend Vision Pro labs around the world, and developers who visit these locations are able to test the Vision Pro in person and get help from Apple engineers on their ‌visionOS‌ apps.

The Vision Pro headset is not expected until early 2024, so Apple still has several months to refine the hardware and software.

Go Apple go! I hope this thing is fannnnnnnnntastic.

Being able to conjure up an any-size screen on demand like one might open a laptop to use a relatively tiny screen seems like an ideal use case for my needs. I hope it can do this one thing very well. Since existing VR products on the market already do this at their much lower resolutions... and Apple demoed exactly this benefit in the WWDC presentation...

...I look forward to trying it with my own eyes and hoping to see the productivity potential of a giant, visually sharp screen(s) in my laptop bag.

(My) Intent is to use it just like I use a laptop now: slip it on when I want to do laptop-type work, slip it off when I'm done. On the plane, on the train, in the hotel room, etc: WHEREVER I focus my attention on a relatively tiny laptop screen now to get things done. A virtual desktop size screen like the 40" ultra-wide I work on when NOT traveling would be so much more useful than continuing to adapt to <= a 16-inch screen when on the road.

No folding creases. No rolling. No weight of glomming on physical screens to get the additional screen R.E.- just a relatively small, NEW bit of tech in the laptop bag. I hope this delivers THAT well.

Like they did the original HomePod? Or the butterfly keyboard MacBooks?

Let’s drop this whole “Apple can do anything” line. It isn’t true. If the Vision Pro isn’t successful very quickly Apple’s board will make it clear to Tim Cook that they expect him to place his focus on more profitable ventures.
Apple still sells the HomePod and Apple fixed the butterfly keyboards. I think you have very limited beliefs, just because something is not immediatly sucessful does not mean Apple gives up on it! Apple has 162 Billion on cash on hand, I do not think you know how much that is... The Apple Vision Pro is just multi-decimal place rounding error compared to that! Don't be meek, be bold!

That is not how Apple rolls buddy! Apple is a 3 Trillion dollar company and they could keep this project going for 10 years if they wanted to! The Apple I and Apple II were in the same boat, just think if Apple gave up after the Apple II! Don't allow your limiting beliefs to deceive you!

My only worry is that in the video it didn’t seem to allow you to make the screen size actually bigger, it just allowed you to scale the same laptop screen. So if you have a 13” MacBook…. Good luck trying to do much… I really hope this isn’t the case in the final product and it allows for arbitrary simulated resolutions. Give me a Pro Display XDR inside the headset!
