February 2024

In February 2024, Apple is expected to release the Vision Pro headset in the United States. We've been waiting for the Vision Pro since June 2023, and as it is a new product category for Apple, it will be one of the most exciting launches of the year.

The AR/VR Vision Pro will be priced starting at $3,500, so it won't be for everyone, and it will be limited to the U.S. at first. It has cutting-edge technology such as 4K micro-OLED displays, the option to swap between augmented and virtual reality, more than a dozen cameras for gesture and eye-based control, audio straps, and tons more.

The Vision Pro debut will also see the launch of visionOS, the operating system that runs on the device.

March/April 2024

Apple is rumored to be planning for several new iPads in the March/April spring timeframe.

  • OLED iPad Pro - Two redesigned iPad Pro models are in the works with 11.1- and 13-inch OLED displays. M3 chips, a new Magic Keyboard, and a new Apple Pencil are also expected.
  • iPad Air - In 2024, Apple plans to introduce two iPad Air models in 10.9- and 12.9-inch sizes, similar to the iPad Pro. The iPad Air models will be more affordable than the iPad Pro models, without some of the "Pro" features like ProMotion technology and OLED displays.

June 2024

Apple holds its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, and this is where it introduces new versions of the software that run on Apple devices and which will be officially released several months later. Sometimes WWDC includes new hardware products, but there are no rumors about June 2024 product launches as of yet.

  • iOS 18 - iOS 18 will include a major focus on AI, particularly on large language models like those that power chatbots like ChatGPT. AI may be integrated into many of Apple's built-in apps, plus Siri may get new capabilities. iOS 18 will also see the launch of RCS, or Rich Communication Services, for improved communication between iPhone and Android devices.
  • iPadOS 18 - iPadOS 18 is expected to have many of the same features that are coming to iOS 18.
  • macOS 15 - We don't yet know anything about macOS 15, but it will be the successor to macOS Sonoma.
  • tvOS 18 - tvOS 18 is another update that we don't know anything about as of yet, but tvOS is refreshed on an annual basis.
  • watchOS 11 - watchOS is the operating system that runs on the Apple Watch. There's no word yet on what's coming in watchOS 11.
  • visionOS 2 - The first version of visionOS will launch early in the year, and we'll get our first update with new features in June with the introduction of visionOS 2.

September 2024

In September, Apple will introduce the iPhone 16 lineup and new Apple Watch models.

  • iPhone 16 - The iPhone 16 models are set to get an Action button, a new Capture button for taking video, and a 3-nanometer A18 chip.
  • iPhone 16 Pro - The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to get bigger displays, a new A-series chip, and an updated 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera. The smaller iPhone 16 Pro will also get the 5x Telephoto lens that was limited to the larger Pro Max model in the iPhone 15 lineup.
  • Apple Watch X - Rumors suggest that there's a redesigned, thinner Apple Watch X coming this year. It could have a magnetic band attachment system and new health features are rumored, including sleep apnea detection and blood pressure monitoring for detecting hypertension.
  • New Apple Watch Ultra - There are no specific rumors of a new Apple Watch Ultra, but it's sure to get the new health capabilities in the works.
  • AirPods 4 - New AirPods might come out alongside the iPhone 16 lineup. Two models are expected, one with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which has previously been an AirPods Pro-only feature. The ANC model will be the more expensive of the two AirPods 4 models, but both will have a new design with shorter stems and an upgraded USB-C charging case that has a built-in speaker for Find My.

Products With Unknown Release Dates

There are several new products in the works that don't yet have specific release dates associated with them at this time.

  • Apple TV 4K - A new Apple TV 4K with a faster A16 processor is said to be coming in the first half of 2024.
  • AirPods Max - Apple is expected to refresh the AirPods Max with a USB-C port and new colors.
  • iPad mini 7 - The next iPad mini won't have any design updates, but it could have an upgraded A-series chip and new front and rear cameras.
  • Low-cost iPad - Apple is working on an 11th-generation iPad with a faster chip and support for Wi-Fi 6E.
  • Mac mini - The Mac mini is due for an update as it was last refreshed with M2 chips in January 2023, but there's no word on when it will be updated.
  • MacBook Pro - The MacBook Pro was updated with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips in late 2023. Apple sometimes refreshes the MacBook Pro annually, but the M4 chip isn't expected in 2024 as of yet, so it's not clear if there will be an update.
  • Mac Studio - The Mac Studio was updated with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips in June 2023, so it could be updated with an M3 Ultra chip at some point in 2024.
  • Mac Pro - Like the Mac Studio, the Mac Pro was refreshed in June 2023 with the M2 Ultra, and a new version with M3 Ultra might be in the works.
  • Home Hub Device - Rumors suggest Apple is working on a smart home display that would serve as a central hub for controlling smart home products, and it could launch as soon as 2024.
  • New Display - There have been multiple rumors of a Pro Display XDR successor, but there's no word on when an update might come.
  • iMac Pro - Apple could introduce a larger 32-inch iMac, replacing the previously discontinued 27-inch iMac. This iMac could be released at some point in 2024, but Apple's plans continue to be unclear.

Further in the Future

  • Foldable iPhone - Apple is allegedly working on a foldable iPhone that might be between 7.5 and 8 inches, with a launch date slated for 2025 at the earliest.
  • Apple Car - There have been a lot of twists and turns in the saga of Apple's electric car development, and while rumors had indicated Apple could begin testing it in 2025 ahead of a 2026 launch, reliable sources now believe Apple has scaled back the project significantly and it is unclear if a full-blown Apple-branded car is still in the works.
